Employment by occupation - trends and outlook
This site provides information on employment trends and the employment outlook for various occupations. It also provides information on other characteristics of those employed in each occupation - their age, gender, whether they are typically self-employed or employees, and whether they are typically working full-time or part-time.
Occupations are grouped into 9 broad occupational groups listed below. You can access the information for individual occupations by expanding the broad occupational group you are interested in, selecting from an A-Z list of occupations or typing in a key word.
For each occupation the following information is provided:
- * Employment trend
- * Employment composition in terms of gender, age, education attainment, employment status and employment type
- * Indication of employment prospects in terms of the unemployment rate, presence of shortages and future employment growth
- * For some occupations, employment prospects are further described using other information, where available.
The analysis was conducted by the Skills and Labour Market Research Unit (SLMRU) in SOLAS using the data held in the
National Skills Database. The National Skills Database was developed in 2003 by the SLMRU on behalf of the Expert Group on Future Skills Needs. It collates quantitative information about the supply and demand of skills in Ireland.
